Material Waste Calculator
Apply an editable allowance to a measured quantity, then round whole packages once. See surplus above the requirement.
Worked example loaded. These are example measurements and product assumptions.
THE METHOD
How to use this estimate
- Calculate your net material quantity first. Use one consistent unit for both quantity and package size.
- Apply the allowance to the unrounded quantity, then round the final package count once.
- The result distinguishes requested allowance from the extra bought because of full packages.
required = net × (1 + allowance/100); packages = ceil(required/package quantity)

Questions, answered
Can I leave package size blank?
Yes. Required quantity remains available; a purchase count is unconfirmed until the package quantity is known.
Is purchased surplus the same as waste?
No. Surplus above the requirement comes from whole packages, while the allowance is an explicit addition to the net quantity.
