Brick & Block Calculator
Estimate masonry units from a net wall area, actual face dimensions and joints. Add pack size for a purchase count.
Worked example loaded. These are example measurements and product assumptions.
THE METHOD
How to use this estimate
- Direct area is the wall face after subtracting openings. Dimension mode subtracts the supplied total opening area once.
- Use actual face dimensions plus joint. A nominal module that already includes a joint must not have that joint added twice.
- Loose units and full packs each round from the original unrounded requirement.
raw units = net wall area × layers × (1 + allowance/100) ÷ ((face length + joint) × (face height + joint))

Questions, answered
Which part of the block do I measure?
Enter its face length and height as installed in the wall. Block depth is not used in this area estimate.
Why can a pack contain more units than the loose count?
The supplier sells full packs. Pack surplus is shown above the allowance-adjusted raw requirement.
