Ramp & Slope Calculator
Calculate slope percentage, angle and sloping length from vertical rise and horizontal run. Compare two geometry input methods.
Worked example loaded. These are example measurements and product assumptions.
THE METHOD
How to use this estimate
- Use a vertical rise and a horizontal run for one uniform straight segment.
- Alternatively, enter a positive rise and chosen percentage to calculate the required horizontal run.
- Sloping length is the diagonal. Landings, transitions and cross slopes need their own measured layout.
slope % = 100 × rise / horizontal run; angle = atan(rise/run); sloping length = √(rise² + run²)

Questions, answered
Is 8% the same as eight degrees?
No. Percent is rise divided by horizontal run times 100. The angle is calculated separately.
Can I calculate a flat segment?
Yes. Enter zero rise and a positive horizontal run. Its angle and percentage are zero and the sloping length equals the run.
